I attended a baby shower this afternoon for one of my good friends. At this baby shower the buffet was overflowing with good eats. The "theme" of the shower was like a sports/basketball thing, so the food there was like the concessions. Needless to say we had some non-traditional shower foods. We had pasta salad, that me and my mother made, which was met with rave reviews (recipe to follow). They also had some marinated cheese, everyone loved it! There was also the famous sausage dip made by none other than Mrs. Jeanette. I remember being in Young Women's and any activity we had, all the girls would ask Sister Bounds, our YW President if she would make this treat for us (this recipe will follow as well cuz it's just so darn good!). But the most amazing thing was the hot dogs. I'm not really one to love a hot dog, but these hot dogs were baked - not grilled, not boiled - BAKED!! When we inquired about the hot dog baking, our friend David Barker (who we now call a genius for this insight) explained his reasoning, and it was this - He doesn't like boiled hot dogs and didn't have the right grill or time to grill hot dogs for everyone. My mother and myself were awestruck. We loved the concept of baking a hot dog to warm it, rather than the boiling which lets be honest, its a little gross. I just got done baking some hot dogs for our dinner. I put them in a baking pan in a preheated oven on 350. I kind of let them cook for maybe 10-15 minutes (i may have over cooked them though). And then I turned the broiler on to brown the outsides a little. We will forever be grateful to David for putting this idea into our heads and I'll never eat a hot dog that hasn't been either grilled or baked ever again.
Now for my recipes:
Pasta Salad:
You will first need to boil some of those swirly noodles. Then you drain the noodles and I like to rinse them for a bit with cold water to cool them. Then you will put some Kraft Italian dressing on the noodles, you can also add olives or artichoke hearts, or tomato, its completely up to you. We normally top our pasta salad with some grated mozzarella cheese, and you're done! It's a relatively easy dish to prepare.
Sausage Dip:
You'll need one thing of the Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage, a package or two of cream cheese, and Rotel. First, you brown the sausage. Then you drain your Rotel, if you want your dip to have a little kick, save a little juice and put it in with your concoction. You will then turn your burner down to a lower setting and soften some cream cheese while mixing it into your cooked sausage and Rotel mixture, and there you go! Another easy treat!

Though I'm not much into hot dogs this whole baking of them is awesome! Ronnie is out of town and we are fending for ourselves.
Just a little addition to the pasta salad ... it is best if you can refrigerate it overnight with the pasta, dressing (entire bottle-Zesty Italian), black olives (sliced), and cheese (8 oz. grated). Best served chilled. Also, add salt (sea salt or regular) and pepper (fresh cracked is best) to taste. Today it was served with grilled chicken seasoned with Tony C's. Yummy!
I have always been highly opposed to hotdogs. However, during one of my pregnancies I developed an occasional craving for them. Usually I will only eat them if they are done BLACK on the grill. But I have to say that this baking concept appeals to me. Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna try it soon.
p.s. By the way, I never accused you of not commenting. Infact, I said you were the ONLY one who did. Thanks for loving me Becca!
I love Jeanette's dip! I'm glad I now have the recipe. I didn't have the hot dogs, I was more into the wings. Anyway you can find the recipe for the marinated cheese at allrecipes.com or just google marinated cheese and it's the first one to pop up. Warning: If you make it, you will always be asked to bring it to everyting! My sister even had me make it for her wedding in Panama City!
